Through the generous gift from William (Miami University Class of 1936) and Dorothy Yeck of Dayton, Ohio, Miami University has a unique opportunity to provide students and the community at large to develop a critical understanding of painting in the 21st century. The competition winner will be awarded the $10,000 William and Dorothy Yeck Award and the painting will become part of Miami University’s permanent collection. This year’s competition focuses on representational realism paintings. 2013 juror, Lance Esplund is the U.S. art critic for Bloomberg News. He has written previous for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Sun and other publications such as Art in America and Modern Painters.

In the past, Robert Anderson, of Northern Kentucky, won first prize at this show, a prize of $l0,000. Anderson is an area figurative painter and draughtsman
whose work was featured in The Narrative Figuration show at the Weston Gallery downtown last Jan-March.
His work will again be featured at Cincinnati Art Galleries this May-June.
