Notification of Selection:   On or around May 1, 2014

Residency Term:   Starting by July 1, 2014, and running for one calendar year.

Manifest is excited to continue the fourth leg of our programing, rounding out our already robust Gallery, Drawing Center, and Press activities. The MAR expands how our Cincinnati-based non-profit organization serves artists engaged in creative research, and the general public engaged in cultural discovery. The MAR award takes advantage of opportunities for synergy between contemporary art exhibition and studio work under the same roof. This will be the third MAR award at Manifest. Learn more about our first and second MAR artists here: http://manifestgallery.org/mar/history

Artists at any stage in their careers are invited to submit complete applications to the Manifest Artist Residency program (MAR). Applications will be reviewed on a competitive basis. One or two artists will be selected as the recipients of the MAR award which consists of the following:

Free 24/7 use of a private studio consisting of (for one artist) approximately five hundred square feet of studio and display space (two north-lit rooms and a hallway) for a period of one year (including nominal utilities). Should two separate applicants be awarded the residency,* each will receive one private room, with shared common space including hallway and restroom. (studios are not intended as a dwelling)

Free Drawing League Membership at Manifest Drawing Center which provides access to approximately 400 hours of life drawing sessions through weekly Open Figure and quarterly Drawing Marathon offerings.

The artist in residence will be given the consideration for teaching courses in our Drawing Center educational program, for pay, during the course of the residency. This will be contingent upon suitability and qualifications, as well as course enrollment, and will be determined by the Drawing Center Coordinator.

Regular public exposure of artwork and studio during Manifest exhibit receptions to over 1500 members of the public (9 events across the year).

The opportunity to submit to any and all of Manifest’s calls for entry for which the artist is eligible, including solo show proposals, with the entry fees waived for all submissions. Works submitted by the artist will still be juried through the blind jury committee process used for all Manifest projects.

The participation in a MAR Showcase exhibit in the gallery near the conclusion of the Residency. This is contingent upon invitation by the Director and the availability of suitable work. The  presentation of an artist talk to the public about their work and year-long experience at or near the conclusion of the Residency

The program is open for application by any serious emerging or established artist, including recent graduates from college art programs. The ideal candidate for the award of the program may be working in any media or genre.

The residency studio is adjacent to Manifest Gallery in historic East Walnut Hills (Cincinnati, Ohio) sharing a common hallway in the same building. The studios consist of two north-lit rooms on the ground floor and a semi-private hallway usable for display of small works. The residency space totals approximately 500 square feet.
