FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 20, 2012

It’s a snap to enter the Teen Photo Contest at the Public Library

The Public Library’s 11th annual Teen Photography Contest is running Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 and offers teens an opportunity to show their creative side. This year’s theme is “Harmony Is …” and teens are encouraged to snap pictures of harmony wherever they may find it – in their music, in their environment, or in their friends and family.

The Library is partnering with the Art Academy of Cincinnati to provide free programs for teens as part of the contest. The Art Academy’s professional photography instructors will inspire ideas while guiding teens to think outside of the box when conceptualizing ideas for the contest. Basic digital editing instruction will be covered as well as time for critiques of provided examples to help teens to shoot a winning photo. The programs are at:

 Hyde Park Branch – Thursday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m. (2747 Erie Avenue, 513-369-4456)

 North Central Branch – Thursday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m. (11109 Hamilton Avenue, 513-369-6068)

 Teen Spot (Main Library) – Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. (800 Vine Street, 513-369-6900)

Winners will be selected from two age groups: 12 to 14 and 15 to 18. In addition to getting their winning photos recognized at the awards event and displayed online, the first-place winners in both age categories get free registration to an Art Academy of Cincinnati community education course, a Chipotle gift card, a ribbon, and a certificate of achievement. The second- and third-place winners get a Chipotle gift card of lesser value, ribbon, and certificate. The 12 honorable mentions in each age category get a ribbon and certificate.

Photos must be submitted no later than Oct. 31. There are three ways to enter a photo:

 Mail a hard copy of your photograph no larger than 11-by-17 inches to: Teen Photography Contest/TeenSpot, Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County, 800 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH 45202

 Email a JPG of your photograph to teenspot@cincinnatilibrary.org.

 Hand-deliver a hard copy of your photograph to any Library location.

Entries will be judged on creativity, style and how well the photograph reflects the contest theme. If you are entering more than one photograph in the contest, please turn in one entry form with each photograph you submit. All submissions must be accompanied by a completed and signed entry form. Submitted photos will be returned only if the contact information on the entry form is correct. Winning and honorable mention photographers will be notified in November. Entry forms and rules are available at teenspace.cincinnatilibrary.org.
